Vaccination coverage rates for influenza remain low among many racial and ethnic groups. The COVID-19 pandemic and its disproportionate effect on communities of color has further highlighted persistent racial and ethnic disparities in both healthcare and public health. This presentation will examine disparities related to race and ethnicity within the context of influenza vaccine uptake. Recommendations for influenza vaccination for the 2020-2021 season, the potential impact of COVID-19, and the importance of influenza vaccination will also be discussed.

Understand the effect of racial and ethnic disparities on the impact of influenza and COVID-19 disease

Examine options to improve vaccine coverage and access to vaccination among susceptible populations

Review the recommendations for influenza vaccination during the 2020-2021 season
